Women’s History Month (March) celebrates women’s contributions throughout our history and serves to shine the spotlight on advancing rights and opportunities for women and girls in the U.S. and worldwide. This year, we honored Women’s History Month by supporting the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), specifically the organization’s K-12 outreach program, SWENext.
The mission of the Society of Women Engineers is to “Empower women to achieve their full potential in careers as engineers and leaders; expand the image of the engineering and technology professions as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity and inclusion.” SWENext encourages and supports K-12 students interested in joining the engineering community.
To get the whole company involved, we joined forces with both our Quality of Office Life (QOOL) and United Strengths of Altieri (USA) Initiative Teams and held a fundraising event. Our colleagues donated to SWENext and received their choice of a homemade cookie or cupcake – because who doesn’t need an afternoon pick-me-up? Clearly everyone does, as we raised over $1200 for the future generation of women engineers! What a charge to know that all of our colleagues – not just women – are supporting our efforts to recognize the contributions women make to our firm and move the needle on gender equity in our field.
