A unique waterfront site for community activities, Gansevoort Peninsula also incorporates ecological restoration, habitat enhancements, and shoreline resiliency.
Hudson River Park’s Gansevoort Peninsula was transformed into a large green oasis on 5.5 acres along the Hudson River directly across from the Whitney Museum. Designed by Field Operations with added input from the neighboring community, the park weaves together passive and active uses, including salt marsh, historic 13th Avenue promenade, multi-use sports field, upland beach with kayak and boat access, seating area north of the waterfront, and numerous other park amenities and gardens. In addition, there is a large Whitney Museum art installation by David Hammons entitled Day’s End. Gansevoort Peninsula has become the largest single green space in Hudson River Park.
Altieri provided electrical and plumbing design to support the architect’s vision for the park and in accordance with Hudson River Park’s standards. Our design included new electrical and plumbing utility services, site lighting and controls for the park and the sports field, support for water features, dog run, and utilities connections for a future floating barge/restaurant.
