After a 4-year renovation, Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC has re-opened! The Library, founded in 1932, is home to the world’s largest Shakespeare collection. The renovation, designed by KieranTimberlake, had made the historic building more inviting and accessible for all. The new gardens, designed by OLIN, include native plants as well as plants referenced in Shakespeare’s works. All 82 Shakespeare first folios will be displayed together for the first time in glass vaults. Other features include a new public wing, state-of-the-art exhibition halls, Reading Room, collaborative spaces and classrooms, and enhanced accessibility and upgrades throughout the building.
“Our reimagined space allows us to bring out the wonders from our archives and provides a blueprint for visitors to engage with Shakespeare in new and interactive ways through the power of performance, the wonder of exhibitions, and the excitement of path-breaking research… all in one building”
Folger Director Michael Witmore
