Friends Seminary is the first K-12 school to have a James Turrell Skyspace installation. “Leading Skyspace,” completed in 2024, is installed within a small room or “chamber” from which viewers experience the night sky as well as a daytime light show. The Skyspace is one of 94 around the world created by James Turrell. Altieri was on the design team for not only the renovation/expansion project at Friends Seminary with Kliment Halsband Architects (now a Perkins Eastman Studio), but also for the “Twilight Epiphany Skyspace” at Rice University and the James Turrell: The Light Inside exhibition hosted by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
